Tom Sternal has been a woodcarver for 45 years. His method of working is based on a preference for using solid materials, few elements and minimal manipulation, preserving the naturalness of each piece. This aesthetic is grounded in his Norwegian heritage. He uses only indigenous wood materials that have been retrieved from fallen trees. He also seeks out local stone—granite, soapstone, or quartzite—for carved pieces. Tom’s sculptural furniture includes carved sinks, tables, chairs, and benches.
